Shirlena Huang is Associate Professor of Geography and Vice-Dean (Graduate Studies) at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore.  She completed her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Toronto.
Her research focuses mainly on issues at the intersection of migration, gender and families (with a particular focus on care labour migration and transnational families within the Asia-Pacific region) as well as urbanisation and heritage conservation, particularly in Singapore.
She is the current Chair of the Gender and Geography Commission of the International Geography Union and sits on the editorial boards of International Journal of Population ResearchSingapore Journal of Tropical GeographySojourn and Women’s Studies International Forum, as well as the book series Asian Cultural Studies: Transnational and Dialogic Approaches (Rowman & Littlefield).
She has also served as a consultant for various government ministries in Singapore, and has served as a member of the Focus Group on Sustainability and Identity of Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) Concept Plan Review 2011 and URA’s Conservation Advisory Panel of URA (2011-2014).
